September is Bamboo Month so we sat down with Simon Weavers at The Cheeky Panda to find out more about this innovative brand and why they are leading the Bamboo Revo-loo-ution that has gained an army of devoted fans across the world.
Why is bamboo such a super hero?
Bamboo isn’t just for pandas and fancy spa music. It’s the future of everyday essentials, and here’s why: it grows like crazy (seriously, up to a metre a day), it regenerates without replanting, and it’s one of the most sustainable materials on the planet. Unlike trees, which take decades to mature, bamboo is ready to go in just a few years - meaning we can swap out wasteful paper products without costing the earth.
So bamboo is good for the earth and our bums?
Your office loo roll and tissues are probably made from virgin wood pulp - yep, forests cut down just so we can blow our noses. Bamboo tissues, on the other hand, are soft, strong, and a more sustainable option. No brainer, right? Not only does bamboo grow straight back, it also is a carbon capturing machine. It absorbs 30% more CO2, and releases 35% more oxygen than trees. It doesn’t just grow fast - it works harder for the planet too.
Is the range just toilet rolls?

A game-changing alternative to traditional options, the core is made with 100% super- absorbent bamboo instead of the synthetic super-absorbent polymers (SAP) found in conventional products, or wood pulp used in some newer alternatives. While wood pulp represents a step toward sustainability, it still requires cutting down trees which take decades to grow. In contrast, bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on earth and can be harvested frequently without depleting resources.
Does bamboo have any other benefits?
Beyond just sustainability credentials, the natural properties of bamboo are what make The Cheeky Panda range so ridiculously good. Its naturally hypoallergenic, with naturally long fibres making it super soft on skin. On top of this, it’s stronger than mild steel (yes, really!) Bamboo has a tensile strength of 28,000 psi - so it could technically hold up a bridge, but we figured toilet roll was more useful.
